Explore the Legacy of South Dakota’s Nine Native Nations in Our New Exhibit
The South Dakota Hall of Fame is proud to announce a new exhibit at the Visitor & Education Center in Chamberlain! This exhibit highlights a powerful part of South Dakota’s story: the Nine Native Nations whose histories, cultures, and contributions have shaped the land we call home.
This thoughtfully curated exhibit offers visitors the opportunity to learn about the Oceti Sakowin (Seven Council Fires), comprising the Dakota, Nakota, and Lakota peoples, as well as the sovereign tribal nations that continue to shape South Dakota’s story today.
Through a blend of historical storytelling and personal achievement, the display also celebrates South Dakota Hall of Fame Inductees who are members of these Nations, honoring their leadership, artistry, service, and impact across generations. From educators and elders to culture bearers and advocates, the individuals featured here represent a legacy of resilience and excellence that deserves recognition and remembrance.
We can’t wait for you to experience this exhibit in person. Can’t join us in person? You can also explore the Nine Native Nations Exhibit online here.
