Winfred man Walt Schaefer to be named to South Dakota Hall of Fame

The South Dakota Hall of Fame will induct Walt Schaefer, of Winfred, into its ranks.

The public is invited to attend the Honors Ceremony celebration in Chamberlain/Oacoma on Sept 12-13, according to a press release.

Schaefer is in the general category with the tagline, "Improving Life in South Dakota."

Before his death in 2023, Schaefer was known for serving as the executive director of McCrossan Boys Ranch for almost 30 years and in many other capacities, including Prairie Village, U.S. Army Mental Health Services and the Human Services Center.
