Dr. Alonzo Peeke Featured in Brookings County Museum

VOLGA, S.D. (KELO) — There are not many places where a musket from the Civil War and a horse-drawn mail wagon are within steps of each other.

But that just scratches the surface of the things you can see at the Brookings County Museum.

The Brookings County Museum, run by the Brookings County Historical Society, is located in Volga. It includes six buildings that take you back in time.

“When you come to our campus, you can find almost anything related to history in Brookings County,” treasurer Kathy Hanson said.

Another person’s story you can learn is that of Dr. Alonzo Peeke, or Doc Peeke. He’s a member of the South Dakota Hall of Fame and served the Volga community for decades.
